Short Assignment #2

Due: By next class period in wiki (TR sections due T 9/18, WF due W 9/19)

Now that we've reviewed the assignment for the first deliverable, a final report, you'll need to start planning how to most effectively craft the document. The first step is to assess the needs and expectations that your readers will have for the report. Using the information discussed in class, please complete the Audience Analysis exercise as a team. Post in the wiki.

Reminder: you'll have three readers, each focusing on different aspects of the report.

Reader One: writing faculty; entire report excluding appendices

Reader Two: engineering faculty; entire report

Reader Three: engineering faculty; executive summary, conclusions, tables and figures

Who's reading the document? Why?

How will the audience(s) use the document?

What's the technical background of your audience(s)?

What things are likely to matter most to your audience(s)?

What things are likely to irritate your audience(s)?

What effect do you want the document to have on the audience?
